CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUNDUP: WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Villareal - Panathinaikos 1-1
Panathinaikos defied the odds and with a brave (and sometimes lucky) performance held the Spanish team to a 1-1 draw inside El Madrigal. The "dude" Georgios Karagounis unleashed a torpedo to put PAO in front but Villareal equalized through a controversial penalty. PAO are also protesting when Villareal's keeper seemed to score an own goal when he walked carelesly inside the goal line while trying to block the ball. Villareal laughed off the accusations about being favoured by the ref by declaring that Cazorla should have had a penaltly given as well. Panathinaikos now are now branded the favourites for the 2nd leg.
Goals and highlights here
Sporting - Bayern Munich 0-5
Who would have thought! Bayern were coming into the game after an embarassing defeat in home soil but put the worries of the domestic league aside and thrashed Sporting. Frank Ribery was too hot to hadnle scoring two goals and giving out two assists. Liedson was ineffective, Rochemback was comical at times. Bayern are surely through to the next round.
0-1, Ribery
0-2, Klose
0-3, Ribery
0-4, Toni
0-5, Toni
Real Madrid - Liverpool 0-1
It seems that Liverpool are more of a champions league team than a premiership title contenders team. They outplayed Madrid inside the Bernabeu , they created more chances and they deservedly have the advantage. Even without Stevie G they got the better of the Galacticos who showed why they were dubbed the worse Real Madrid team of the decade. Yossi Benayoon was the hero, scoring the goal and giving Madrid all sorts of problems.
0-1, Benayoun
Chelsea - Juventus 1-0
Love him or hate him Didier Drogba is back showing Europe that he can still be lethal. He converted Kalou's fluky pass and Chelsea held to a 1-0 victory. Claudio Ranieri couldn't inflict any damage at his return to the Bridge but the two teams are surely going to the settle their differences in 2 weeks time.
1-0, Drogba
